Description
Native Root is a specialty coffee-growing and exporting company based in Bogotá, Colombia. The company was founded by Nasa indigenous member and third-generation coffee grower Ervin Liz in the spring of 2017. In 2021 Native Root became a Liz Andela family-owned business composed of four women and three men. We take pride in being a women-majority-owned company.

Our farm and those of the 55 indígenous families we work with are located in the south-west of Colombia. All our coffee is grown, harvested, and processed with much love and dedication in the ancestral lands of Cauca. For three generations we have worked to have high-quality coffees following the tradition inherited by our grandparents. It is a legacy of years of work, wisdom, and pride that we bring to you today and that will finally be a connection with our Native roots.

Description

This is a single-origin, specialty coffee grown at our farm in the south of Colombia, surrounded by fruit trees at an elevation of 6200 feet above sea level. Each cherry is handpicked primarily by women harvesters, the coffee beans are then brought to our wet mill where we wash them with spring mountain water. Once cleaned the cherries are de-pulped and processed using the yellow honey method with a three-day fermentation time. After one month of processing and drying this award-winning coffee is carefully roasted medium-light to highlight its delicate floral and fruity notes. These beans are the result of hard work and standardized procedures developed over five years of study and experimentation. This coffee won fourth place at a national specialty coffee competition in Medellin, Colombia in September 2023. Please enjoy this gem of the specialty coffee industry and feel the connection with our native roots and the love and passion we pour into our craft. Our current monthly production capability is 1.000 12-oz bags per month with the ability to increase production to 2.000 12-oz bags per month within a two-month period.
